MYSTERY water leaks in a disabled man’s council home have not been fixed since he moved in four months ago.

A puddle was first spotted when Stephen Parsons, 57, and his wife Tara, 50, were shown round the property in High Street, Blunsdon in May and they were told it would be dealt with.

But despite repeated calls to Swindon Borough Council the leaks continued.

Mr Parsons, who lives with multiple health issues including chronic arthritis, epilepsy and a slipped disc, told the Adver: “It’s caused me and my wife a lot of stress. I have rung five times in the last week and it’s all a bit too much.

"My wife is disgusted with them because if I fall, then she has to pick me up somehow and if she falls and hurts herself then she can’t look after me.”

Mr Parsons said: “The lady who showed us around noticed the puddle and she said she would sort it out, but when we moved in we soon noticed it hadn’t been fixed. We have been trying to get it sorted out since then.”

Puddles appear all around the house but he has no idea where they are coming from. “There is a leak somewhere in the kitchen and in the bedroom but the one in the kitchen is the worst. The council has been to my house about five times now and nothing has happened."

At one point he was told the flue from his boiler to the roof might not be correct so it was replaced. “That wasn’t put in properly and so the council said it would send out a roofer to fix it and to fix the tiling on the roof. Then a plumber was sent out and he had the wrong tools so he told me he would come back in an hour and he didn’t. I got in touch with the council and they said the plumber couldn’t do anything because the roofer wasn’t there and they needed to do the job together. I love living here but it’s made me disgusted with the council.”

A borough council spokesman said: “We attended the property on Monday to investigate and we undertook some maintenance work. We have identified the problem and are in the process of making arrangements for another visit when we can return to complete the work.”
