SCHOOLCHILDREN are set to go on strike just a couple of weeks after going back to class following the summer holidays.

A climate change strike is being organised by multiple groups including Earth Strike, Extinction Rebellion, Swindon Climate Action Network.

Pupils have been called on to join the strike on September 20 along with anyone else who wants to join.

Across the world climate strikes have been in action as young people and allies aim to save the planet.

Here's what you said on Facebook...

Ian Cooksley: Instead of this total farce, wouldn't a day of environmental studies, and ideas brainstorming, be a better use of their time? Instead of teaching them that, if they don't like something go stand in a street, teaching them that they can actually do something useful.

Joe Botwright: Funny how they didn’t do any of this during their school holiday.

Marie Hicks: To all of you that object to kids having a stand, do you think that women had won the right to vote by sitting at home and educating themselves about the human rights. We endorse all that is happening to our planet by our lifestyle and vote. Consumerism and greed are the main principles of our society. Hope some of these kids will grow up with strength and conviction to change things. We certainly didn't.

Scott Farrell: Hope they are all fined for truancy.

Eris Crow: Oh how the right wing and climate change denial go hand in hand! Yes, the response from most of those posting here is pathetic. The evidence is clear and incontrovertible that humans are causing a climate catastrophe and yet those trying to make a difference only come in for criticism from the right wingers out there.

Gav Hollands: Probably all dropped off at school by their parents.

David King: I dread to think what is now in the school curriculum.

Jon Dixon: Isn't it strange how the media consistently lectures us on climate change, yet also routinely urges us to "give what we can" to impoverished people in parts of the world with native birth rates ten times that of anywhere in Europe. A population explosion means massive pollution problems. I'm not saying that we shouldn't help people or recycle, but surely being humanitarian and also rallying for climate change is a logical conflict of interest? Why are we teaching kids to be blind to reality?

Davey Gooch: Why don’t schools actually teach kids about the real world instead of teaching to follow like sheep! I wonder how many of these kids that are protesting have actually been conditioned by the schools? I’m going to say 98 per cent of them.

Lee Tilling: I hope my kid will be having his say on the terrible state of the world's environment and protesting to make the world a better place to be. Already counting my pennies stash for the truancy fine.

Paul Alibone: Oh good, let them block roads causing more pollution. When China, the United States, India and Russia all do their bit, then I will think its a topic worth supporting. Until then we're in for a hiding for nothing.

Martin Costello: The left wing indoctrination of our kids in the education system continues. The schools should be fined for allowing them out of lessons. I had a seven-year-old child coming home and telling me Trump was a 'horrible man' I was livid with the school, this simply has to stop.
