A GRINCH stole fibre optic Christmas trees and jackets worth almost £3,000.

Appearing before Swindon Magistrates’ Court, Neil Bambrick admitted shoplifting raids on Wilko in Swindon and a Cirencester branch of Cotswold Outdoor, as well as attempting to steal cash from a Swindon Borough Council parking metre.

The 37-year-old, of no fixed address, took 10 jackets from the outdoor store in November 2017. The items were worth £2,990.

A year later, on November 10, 2018, he took two fibre optic Christmas trees, two boxes of Christmas lights and two packs of rope lights from Wilko.

On January 21, 2018, he attempted to steal an unknown quantity of cash from a Swindon council metre.

Magistrates sentenced him to a 12-month community order, with a requirement to complete a six month alcoholism treatment programme.

He must pay £100 compensation to Cotswold Outdoor and £50 compensation to Wilko.

No order was made for Bambrick to pay costs or a victim surcharge.
