A NEW health committee has been set up to take decisions in Swindon jointly with the newly-merged Care Commissioning Group.

The Health and Care Board will feature members of Swindon Borough Council’s Conservative cabinet and will act as a sub-committee.

The member for adults’ health and care Brian Ford said: “This will take decisions about Swindon only, where the council has a pooled budget with the health service.”

He told his colleagues the decision-making arrangements would be innovative.

The Swindon board will meet at the same time as the CCG, with the same agenda and in the same room, but they will officially be two separate meetings.

He added: "Decisions will be made by both the CCG and the health and care board.

"Each committee will have one vote and both must agree for a measure to be passed.”

The decisions of the board will be subject to both normal scrutiny and call-in procedures by councillors.
