ROYAL Wootton Bassett has struck Gold for its entry into South West in Bloom 2019 competition.

The town's Community Together group has entered the competition for the last four years.

A spokesperson for the competition said: “There is a strong sense of community pride with many local organisations and individuals playing their part.

“It was also good to see the town council taking an active part in co-ordinating Community Together. The volunteers' work is very well publicised through traditional and digital media.”

Winning the award shows the town excels in horticultural and floral practices, as well as showing great community participation and spirit.

Bassett has picked up multiple discretionary awards, including Best Newcomer, since it started entering.

The judges for the competition, Tony Moore and Ian Murphy, were taken on a tour.

They commented: “Our impression of the High Street is that it is a source of great pride to the community. The High Street was exceptionally clean and tidy. All the street furniture was beautifully painted, and we understand this is in no small part to the RWB Shed project. Excellent work.”
