A BURGLAR who stole stone troughs, cabling and a 4x4 pickup has been jailed for 38 weeks.

Michael O’Driscoll repeatedly interrupted magistrates as his sentence was read out. The 41-year-old, who is a member of the traveller community, was ordered to pay around £700 in compensation to his various victims.

He admitted failing to provide two counts of failing to provide a blood specimen for analysis, stealing a Devizes man’s wallet, using the bank card in two transactions at the town’s Morrisons, threatening two Swindon Co-op workers, stealing a Mitsubishi 4x4, assaulting the car’s owner, two counts of driving without insurance, burglary and vehicle interference.

O’Driscoll also admitted committing the offences while subject to a suspended sentence order.

Magistrates asked to direct that police release a VW Golf, which was being used by O'Driscoll to tow the 4x4 but which was owned by another.
