The owners of the Brunel shopping centre are serious about their plans to transform Swindon town centre with two huge tower blocks.

FI Real Estate Management has lodged a formal application for planning permission for the scheme with the borough council.

Here’s what you said on Facebook:

Manni Madhani: I would love nothing more than to see any good developments in Swindon. But it just doesn’t happen or if does and it’s a mess.

Phil Titcombe: I’ve said it before and I’m going to say it again - sort the town centre out first, get the rent down, fill the shops.

Make Bridge Street look like the rest of town.

If you want to build flats use the office space that’s above Debenhams that there are so called rumours of. And that massive space where the walk in centre and car park used to be!

Tony Hughes Manni: Swindon council just procrastinate and nothing ever gets done. This will be the town that time forgot.

Liz Millington: Well said. It’s a mess and such a shame as there is so much potential.

Charlie Kibblewhite: Knock it down and build us an indoor shopping centre like The Oracle.

Roman Piotrowski: I’ll believe it when I see it. Spend the money to preserve the Mechanics and Locarno first.

Joel Everson: As long as future residents have an arrangement to be able to park in the car parks (at an annual cost?) I think it’s a great idea.

Dan Trudgian: This will look amazing above an empty retail plaza. I can’t wait.

Dawn Sturgess: And at least six more shops are closing in The Brunel after Christmas.

Karl Cook: I would like to see them built on the condition that the residents are not permitted to purchase residence parking in zone A!

Warren Marion: Oh boy, more skyscrapers but no shops. Just rubbish shops apart from a few of the older shops.

Sara Foofar Dommett: Skyscrapers?! We’re not New York.

Colin Perkins: The council cannot even fill some of the pot oles, what chance will this have to get done?

Sam Ruck: The council needs to sort out the town centre first before putting these up.

Phil Paton: I blame Brexit for all this positive news and investment.

Deb Hedges: We need shops and jobs, not flats nobody can afford.

Jackie Nolan-Clarke: Why do we need skyscrapers? That won’t make Swindon a good town. What are the planners thinking of?

Daniel Adams: The town needs higher density housing to help alleviate the housing crisis without pushing to far out into green land.

Joe Prinzi: These fairytales are almost believable.

Paul Fallows: They won’t happen either.

Christos Flouris: Skyscrapers, we don’t need to go to New York City anymore.

Wayne Brigginshaw: When will this happen? Somewhere in the very distant future!
