Skeletons coming out of their graves, illuminated ghosts and the Grim Reaper were just a few things you would have seen around Swindon on Halloween.

Houses across the town where transformed into spooky grottos for trick or treaters.

Kingshill Road in Old Town was a particular treat for visitors, with one house attracting almost 400 people who came to trick or treat. And it was doing it for a good cause.

The house was decorated by Claire Cox, 37 and her family.

“We been decorating for a few years now and each year we just get bigger and bigger,” said the mum of five girls.

This year the house was decorated in a Halloween Circus theme, with a giant spider, inflatable grave stones and a ghost in a top window, among the decorations.

“It started out as something small, and each year I just kept getting more decorations for the girls,” said Claire.

The house has become known across Swindon, with people coming to trick or treat from all over to see the decorations.

“Every year we found we had more and more trick or treaters. We had about 300 people last year, and so this year we thought we would try and raise some money for charity,” said Claire.

Donation boxes were added alongside the spooky festivities for visitors to donate to the local charity Sands, which provides support to parents who have lost a baby.

“We’re doing this in memory of Annabelle, my niece who was still born a few years ago.

“There were a lot of complications and she died in the womb at eight and a half months,” said Claire.

“Sands was absolutely amazing for my brother and his wife, with everything they do and the memory boxes they give to parents. They were there straightaway offering support,” she added.

“It was such a shock, added Claire.

“After 12 weeks you just think everything will be okay. So it was such a big shock at the end that this happened.”

Thursday night saw the family raise nearly £140 for the charity.

“It was fantastic. Loads of people came and considering this was the first time we have done it for charity, I’m really pleased."
