THE Visit Highworth centre squeezes a lot into its small space.

A flag outside the shop’s entrance draws the eye and helps it stand out from the rest of the High Street.

A yarn wreath of remembrance poppies sits proudly on display in the window while the town’s second There But Not There ‘Tommy’ statue of a silhouetted First World War soldier stands near the indoor entrance.

Paintings from the town’s artists’ society and photographs from the local photographers’ society line the wall around and behind the visitor information desk.

These are all for sale and will be regularly rotated with new contributions.

Shelves of woodwork, leather bags, pottery and even Visit Highworth-branded merchandise like calendars, posters and T-shirts fill the shelves.

Christmas cards and silver jewellery will soon be stocked. A museum full of artefacts donated by residents is what used to be the Lloyds bank's safe.

It includes a large matchstick model of St Michael’s Church, fragments of Roman pottery, an old post office till and a china tea set emblazoned with Highworth buildings.

The exhibits will change every quarter.

Guides to walking trails and little-known attractions can be bought from the information desk.

Shareholders the Adver spoke to recommended a trip to Coleshill, where secret agents stayed during the Second World War and visited Highworth to use the post office and send coded messages.
