Swindon Samaritans are calling for more volunteers as Christmas approaches.
The charity offers emotional support to anyone as a way of reducing isolation and disconnection that can result in suicide.
It receives more than 5m calls for help across the country every year.
A spokeswoman for Swindon Samaritans said: “We always have a need for listening volunteers, every six seconds we get contacted by people who need our help. There is a link as we move towards Christmas and these festive periods. It’s not always festive for everyone so we need to be there and support anyone who gets in touch.”
Swindon and District Samaritans are looking for a range of volunteers including listening roles.
A listening volunteer will answer calls, emails, SMS, letters or have face to face talks with people in need of support.
The charity will be holding an event on volunteering at Chiseldon House at Stonehill Green at 7.30pm. Call 01793 512490 for more.
