The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming general election is just days away.

Tuesday, November 26 will be the final day people can sign up to have their say on December 12.

Polling cards should be dropping through letterboxes by December 5 and will contain details of the date, polling station location and opening times.

The card does not need to be taken to the polling station on general election day.

People who have applied to vote by proxy, postal or postal proxy will still receive a card to tell them of their voting details along with the deadline to cancel their vote.

Anyone wishing to submit a postal vote must apply by 5pm on November 26. This deadline applies to new postal and postal proxy applications as well as changes to existing postal or postal proxy votes.

To vote by proxy, people need to apply by 5pm on Wednesday, December 4.

If someone becomes ill after the close of proxy voting then they can apply for an emergency proxy to vote on their behalf by 5pm on the day of the election. However, the application must be attested and signed by a medically qualified person.
