A SWINDON sailor received one of the Royal Yachting Association’s most prestigious awards from Princess Anne in recognition of his commitment to South Cerney Sailing Club.
Paul Kimmens was nominated for a national award by his club and selected as a winner by the RYA Honours and Awards Panel.
He said: "I am absolutely gobsmacked, and so humbled and honoured that people think I’m worthy of this award.
"In fact, I’m slightly embarrassed about it - there are so many people who do so much more.
"It’s really a reflection on my club because they’re the ones who’ve inspired me for the last 30 years – it’s an amazing place doing amazing things.”
Paul fulfilled many different roles at the sailing club and has been involved in the training side.
A club spokesman said: "Friendly and approachable, he is always the first to volunteer to help people, especially if it gets them on the water. If something needs doing, Paul’s drive and enthusiasm make it happen."
