PARENTS, teachers and trade union members will be taking to the streets on Saturday to raise awareness of the impact of school funding cuts in Swindon.

Activists will be engaging with the community in Wharf Green from 11am to 3pm and giving out leaflets for the public to distribute at their local school.

The event, organised jointly by Swindon NEU, Swindon Trades Council and Fair Funding for All Schools Swindon, is part of a wave of similar events across the country in the run-up to the election.

This comes on top of a dramatic increase in child poverty which sees an average of nine children out of every class of thirty living in poverty.

The campaign is not supporting a specific party but is calling on voters to have education funding in mind when voting. This could involve looking at pledges, voting records or local information at schoolcuts.org.uk.

During the 2017 election, education spending became a key issue, with polling company Survation estimating that 750,000 people switched their vote over concerns with school funding. This time round, a poll has found that education is a top three high priority issue for voters.
