The range of talents on show in Swindon’s young people was apparent when they came together to perform in aid of two local charities.

Singers, dancers and choirs all took part in Mayor of Swindon’s Song and Dance Showcase in aid of his nominated charities, CALM, the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Movement and north Swindon Deaf Children’s society at the MECA venue in the centre of town.

Coun Parry said he was thrilled by the event, and the standard of the performances.

He added: “The aim of the evening was to showcase some of Swindon’s finest talent and to give people of Swindon an incredible night out at an affordable price and to raise money for my two charities. It was a huge success.

“My wife Barbara and I thank Justin Britchford and his team at the MECA, all the performers, everyone who came along to support this event, Paul Ashman, all of the volunteers front and backstage and all of the sponsors.”

The Voice Kids star Phoebe Maddison as well as dancers from Judith Hockaday School of Dance & Drama, Bollynaach, BigSingThing, DanzXpres, the Military Wives Choir, the Great Western Youth Band, and Billy and Louie all took part in the show, directed and compered by Paul Ashman.

Proceeds from the evening are still being counted and will be divided between the two causes.

A Christmas carol service with mince pies and mulled wine will end the year with another fundraiser for the mayor’s charities. It will be held in the council chamber at the Civic Offices on Euclid Street from 7pm on Friday, December 13.
