SWINDON Borough Council's business and economy manager Julia Stuckey spoke to Highworth Town Council to explain what is being done to help those affected by Honda's departure.

Around 100 partners are involved in working with the support committee's different groups.

Ms Stuckey said: "The supply chain group is part of the national taskforce, making contact with direct suppliers so they are aware of the support available, should they need it while looking for new contracts on the market.

"The employment and skills group is the busiest. Some workers will retire, some will go into the voluntary sector, some will retrain.

"The ideal scenario is to retain as many of those skilled staff in the area as possible and our job is to make it easy for them to stay.

"A community wellbeing group will create a booklet to signpost local support services.

"A group suggesting ideas to Honda for the future of the site is still in its early stages.

"There's lots going on and a lot of activity but it's a complicated and slow process."
