Three people were taken to hospital by South Central Ambulance Service and police closed Leigh Road at its junctions with Bournemouth Road and Chalvington Road.
More than thirty firefighters were called to the fire with crews from Eastleigh, Winchester, St Mary’s and Redbridge alongside support vehicles from other stations and an aerial Ladder platform.
Firefighters used 12 sets of breathing apparatus, three jets and three hose reel jets to battle the blaze after receiving the emergency call at around 5pm.
The roof and the ground floor of the house suffered 75% fire damage as well as extensive smoke damage.
The stop message came in at 8.18pm.
Fire investigators will be probing the cause of the fire.
