A PAIR of high-risk domestic abuse suspects have been arrested as part of a new crackdown by police.

The Wiltshire force is trialling an 'arrest car' in the Swindon area and the first 24 hours of the pilot project saw two men taken into custody.

A 29-year-old man is being held on suspicion of rape and common assault, while a 27-year-old man from Toothill was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm.

The double-crewed car will be in operation in the town for an initial period of three months.

Superintendent Adrian Burt said: “This a really positive first day for the trial and as a dedicated resource I expect it to fasten the pace in which we’re able to track down high risk suspects and investigate crimes.

“If the trial proves successful then we could look to expand the initiative across the county.”
