A NEW regular social event for people with dementia in Highworth got off to a great start as dozens of guests enjoyed its first session.

Mayor Julia Bishop opened the Forget-Me-Not Cafe in the Highworth Community Room on Gilberts Lane and more than 30 people enjoyed a chat and a cuppa.

Organiser Kevin O'Donoghue said: "Huge thanks go to everyone who turned out to help. We are confident that we will be able to build on this success at future events.

"There were heartwarming stories heard across the hall. Couns Alan and Julia Bishops' overwhelming support for making Highworth Dementia Friendly is hugely appreciated.

"We look forward to meeting new friends at the next event on March 5 and at all our forthcoming events."

Peter and Denise Arnel entertained guests with songs, stories and poetry. HomeInstead Senior Care and the Highworth Artists Society sponsored the event.

Bloomfields and the Co-op provided cakes and refreshments, Stables Studio created posters, flyers and invites, and Bupa Dental Care Highworth provided extra support.

It was part of Highworth's effort to become officially recognised as Dementia Friendly.
