THE developer in charge of a block of flats built in West Swindon less than two years ago apologised after Storm Ciara caused part of the building to collapse.

Bricks and a satellite dish fell three storeys and crashed to the ground after strong winds caused a gable end of a Ridgeway Farm property – constructed in July 2018 – to collapse.

Metal fencing cordoned off part of the pavement while workmen cleared the debris.

A spokesman for Taylor Wimpey said: “We would like to sincerely apologise to residents affected by the collapse of a gable end wall at our Ridgeway Farm development during Storm Ciara.

“Health and safety is our priority and we are urgently investigating the cause of this incident. We have been in regular contact with the affected homeowners and are committed to repairing the damage as soon as possible.”

A branch of Drove Vets operates out of the ground floor of the building. One staff member told the Adver: “We were alerted to the problem on Sunday morning. I heard that all the residents were evacuated until the area had been made safe.

“It’s really bad. I haven’t seen any damage on the other houses on this estate. Luckily no-one was hurt.”
