A BURGLAR who plundered £15,000 worth of jewellery from Argos has been jailed for 21 months.
Anthony Walsh, 41, was given a suspended sentence a year ago for the Greenbridge store raid, which took place in July 2018.
But after twice being hauled before the court for breaching his suspended sentence order, a Swindon judge packed the thief off to prison.
Judge Jason Taylor QC nodded to the bags Walsh had with him in the dock, saying: “I can see that you’ve come prepared today and that was wise on your part.”
He said: “I gave you a chance. You then missed your first appointment with the drug rehabilitation team after having been given that chance and I would have made the consequences of breaching that to you then.
“Courts make allowances and appreciate that battling drug addiction is a long and difficult road. But there’s no other way of saying this but that your compliance and motivation is poor and you have already been given two chances. I don’t consider it would be unjust to activate the custodial sentence.”
