HEAVY rain and strong winds will hit Swindon hard over the weekend just a few days after Storm Ciara caused chaos.

The imminent arrival of Storm Dennis has prompted the Met Office to issue a rain weather warning which will last from Saturday morning until Sunday night as well as a wind warning which covers all of Saturday afternoon.

Wind speeds are forecast to reach up to 29mph on Saturday, with gusts of up to 55mph, and a high chance of heavy rain from 9am until midnight. Temperatures will range from 11 degrees Celsius to 9C.

On Sunday, the heavy rain will continue unrelentingly and is not expected to ease until Monday morning. Wind speeds will continue to reach the mid-20s with strong gusts of up to 46mph. Temperatures will range from 11C to 6C.

A Met Office spokesman said: "There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris. There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs

There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected. There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close."

"There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage."
