A DRIVER is racing against the sun in a cross-country journey to Land's End.

Craig Barrett is bidding to travel 430 miles from England's most easterly point to the westerly tip of Cornwall in under eight hours.

And he's planning to do it in a 16-year-old Toyota Celica.

Craig will be raising money for Macmillan when he sets off on from Ness Point in Lowestoft as the sun sets on May 8. He wants to reach Land's End before it rises eight hours later.

The 33-year-old from Lyneham said: “I’ve always wanted to do something like this and for the Macmillan charity because it’s a good cause.

“I recently lost a good family friend called Anthony to liver cancer. We were very close to him so it was quite a shock when it happened.

“I spoke to my friend on Facebook about it and I just decided to go for it."

The journey time is listed on Google as seven hours and 50 minutes, so Anthony knows he will be cutting it fine.

He will be joined by his partner Donna Loud, 34, and anybody else who is up for the challenge.

Anthony, of Chapple View, said: “It’s going to be close, especially as we have to stop to fill up and other stops for food. But when we do stop we will time ourselves to make sure we get there."

He added: “I would love to put up my target but for now it’s £200 because we’re just past Christmas so people are stumped for money.

"Every little helps and getting what we can will be great."

This isn't Craig's first challenge. He cycled around Wales in 2016 and 2017 to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

He told the Adver: “I’m always looking to do challenges for causes like these, each time I cycled I raised about £120.

“I felt a sense of achievement because you know you’re doing it for a good cause. It’s not a huge amount of money but it all helps and I feel very proud.”

During the drive from Ness Point to Land's End Craig will have a GoPro attached the the car for a live feed on Facebook.
