Children from St Mary’s Primary School gave the stamp of approval to Purton's new Post Office which is now inside the village's Co-op.

The pupils helped to officially open the new branch that is replacing the one-day-a-week mobile unit that had served the village for four years.

The supermarket which houses it opened on Station Road last December following an investment of more than £1 million - and pupils from the same school went to the opening of that, too.

Post Office services have been added to the branch to give the village its first full-time Post Office branch since 2016.

Wiltshire Councillor for Purton Jacqui Lay said: “A Post Office is not just somewhere to carry out transactions but is also a hub in the community for people to meet and talk and perhaps offer support to those who might need it.

"Plus there is the added benefit of the excellent range of goods available at the new Co-op shop. We are delighted to see the Post Office open for business.”

Post Office services are available in the Co-op store between 7am and 11pm daily, which totals more than 110 hours each week.

Co-op area manager Melo La Gambina said: “Connecting communities and bringing people together is at the heart of the Co-op.

"We are committed to making a difference and creating value in our communities.

"Following the launch of the popular new Purton store at the end of last year, we are delighted to launch Post Office services which will further support the store’s ambition to operate, and make a difference, at the heart of local life.”
