Coronavirus has already impacted all of our lives and it looks like the effects are only going to grow in the coming weeks.

But the Adver will carry on doing what we’ve always done – shine a light on what’s happening in our communities and hold power to account.

We will give you calm, considered reports of what’s happening in and around Swindon as well as the national picture.

We will play our part in letting you know how you can help your community.

We will work with any and all organisations that we can assist in any way during this unprecedented period.

And we’ll work hard supporting our communities if restrictions are brought in on people’s movements.

From you, it would be great to hear of people doing good things where you live.

Are you rallying round to help an elderly neighbour who lives alone?

Can you shop for them if they’re worried about going out?

Or set up contact networks so everyone has someone to talk to?

Is there a food bank where you live? Well, make sure it’s still getting plenty of donations. The call on these services could well increase significantly.

Has your street clubbed together to buy vital supplies?

When it comes to shopping, don’t panic buy.

The supermarkets have reassured customers that they have enough, it’s only the unusual shopping patterns that is resulting in empty shelves.

Of course everyone needs essentials like toilet paper and basic foods such as pasta, but bulk buying only perpetuates the cycle whereby people see empty shelves so rush to get supplies when they come in.

There’s a risk here the vulnerable and infirm are left behind.

No-one wants that.

Inevitably, there will be a lot of difficult news in the weeks ahead, so the more we can bring you some light, the better.

As we said yesterday, it’s likely you will see changes to what we have in the paper.

With elite sport virtually all cancelled and the grassroots leagues and clubs likely to be next, we’ll be looking closely at what we carry in our sport pages.

And if, as seems likely, there are social restrictions down the line that will impact what we bring you in our news pages.

We’re going to be asking you what you’d find most helpful, and using this chance to write some of the stories you’d like to see covered.

In the paper and online, we are your voice and we will use that carefully.
