FIVE men have been arrested after trouble flared before Swindon Town’s top-of-the-table clash with Exeter City last month.

Police had to keep the rival fans apart at the junctions of Manchester Road into Salisbury Road and County Road and Station Road at around 2pm on February 1.

After an investigation was sparked, five men were arrested over the weekend.

They include a 21-year-old, 44-year-old and 30-year-old from Swindon, a 33-year-old from Melksham and a 21-year-old from Trowbridge.

Detctive sergeant Alex Spargo said:  "This weekend's operation successfully resulted in five men being arrested following the disorder at the County Ground in February.

"We will also be interviewing more people who were involved in the next couple of weeks.

"This was a small group intent on causing disorder and disruption to not only football fans but to the wider community who were out in Swindon that day.

"The message here is that this kind of behaviour will never be tolerated and we are always fully committed to investigate incidents like this and bring those responsible to justice."
