More than 120 people have donated to a hospital coronavirus fundraising appeal.

Great Western Hospital charity Brighter Futures is raising money to support staff working through the coronavirus pandemic.

An online fundraiser has hit almost £7,000 with some people donating up to £500.

Last week, hospital head of fundraising Cat Newman told the Adver: “We set the appeal up mainly because people have been asking for it, really.

“We were a little bit nervous, with everybody worrying about their own families.

“We started noticing more and more people wanting to donate and wanting to support the hospital. We felt we needed to listen to them so we launched the appeal."

She added:“It’s really just to help us raise some money to support our staff and our patients during this time, doing some nice things over and above the money we receive from government and that can help direct efforts.

“It’s the nice things to have. So, we’re doing care packages across the hospital with snacks and drinks to keep our staff refuelled and keep them going through the day.”
