A WOMAN suspected of stealing £200 of goods from Waitrose and fleeing in another woman's car is in custody.
Staff at Waitrose on Mill Lane in Wichelstowe called the police and reported that a woman had parked up in an Audi, taken a lot of shopping without paying for it, then driven off around 10.30am on Tuesday
The woman headed towards Wroughton before attempting to flee as a passenger in a Citroen Saxo driven by someone she knew.
Officers raced to the supermarket and carried out a search of the area with a dog handler. They found a woman in her 40s and arrested her on suspicion of theft, driving without a licence and driving without third party insurance.
They seized the Citroen Saxo and reported the driver – another woman in her 40s – for driving without third party insurance.
PC Luke Hobbs said: “This was a great team effort from all involved in quickly locating and arresting this individual.
“We have seized approximately £200 worth of suspected stolen goods from Waitrose.”
The woman is currently in custody in Gablecross for further questioning.
