Swindon’s BMW plant will begin a phased start up this Friday, May 15.

The announcement comes as the Hams Hall plant near Birmingham resumed limited production on April 27 with the Oxford plant due to start it’s own phased start up on May 18.

A statement from BMW said: “Due to the continuously changing circumstances and local coronavirus guidelines in the countries in which we build vehicles, the BMW Group is taking a staggered approach to ramping up its production locations. This process begun in late April 2020 and will continue into mid-May.

“The health of our workforce is the BMW Group’s number one priority.

“We have already implemented effective measures across the company to prevent infection and protect all our employees and their families.

“Production at all sites will initially resume with one shift.”
