AN iPhone charger was blamed for a fire that brought more than a dozen firefighters to Old Town.
Three fire appliances and the aerial appliance from Swindon and Stratton fire stations were called to Joiner Lane, off Devizes Road, shortly after 1pm. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire in the ground floor flat using a hose reel jet.
Crew manager Mark Shipway said the possible cause of the fire was an iPhone charger.
“The recommendation would be unplug phone chargers when they are not in use," he said.
"Once your phone’s charged unplug it.”
Around six flats were evacuated. No one was in the affected flat, Mr Shipway said. No one was injured.
Smoke damage could clearly be seen around the window of one of the ground floor flats opposite the rear entrance to The Core café.
The firefighters had left the scene by 2.30pm.
