Shoppers and councillors have taken to Twitter to express their feelings over the closure of Swindon's John Lewis.
The Mannington store announced this morning that it would not be reopening, but the John Lewis Outlet at the Swindon Designer Outlet will reopen on July 30.
Councillors Jim Robbins and Dale Heenan both expressed their sadness and condolences to the staff that are at risk of losing their jobs.
Really disappointed to hear that the John Lewis Store in Swindon won’t be reopening following the lockdown. Sad news for the town and my thoughts are with all the staff affected.

Sad news. A good out of town store with free parking couldnt compete with online shopping :( looks like the #johnlewis #bullring store also closing just like #debenhams. Almost seems like what happens in #Birmingham happens in #swindon. https://t.co/BubC5xUxE9

Other shoppers drew comparisons to the At Home store and the Outlet unit while some just expressed their sadness.

Can't believe John lewis is closing the store in swindon but keeping the awful outlet open! There nothing there. I'm gutted, my favourite store in swindon and the next closest is miles away! @waitrose #JohnLewis #Swindon

So the Swindon John Lewis is not re-opening. So sad for the staff. Sad for the people round Swindon, especially those on the west side of town. And I was just waiting for it to open to buy a new bedspread. https://t.co/Cu8tx0Qthb

Gutted to hear that we are to lose our @jlpartnership store in Swindon is not opening again and that the fabulous staff will be losing their jobs. We visit nearly every week and I loved working as a temp there one Christmas. #johnlewis #swindon

Terrible for #Swindon & #johnlewis store to close. The Swindon store was continually busy & #johnlewis & Bérangère Michel, executive director for John Lewis should reconsider decision #keepjohnlewisswindonopen https://t.co/6hXXH7FJS7

@jlandpartners Just heard that you’re not going to reopen John Lewis@Home Swindon. Really disappointed! Its a lovely store, supported by the community & the staff are a credit to JLP. Doubtful I’ll be a returning customer, as the nearest store will now be over an hour. #Swindon
