A CONVOY transporting panel presses weighing a total of 190 tonnes could cause traffic problems on the M4 and A419 tomorrow morning.

The abnormal load is due to enter Wiltshire through J18 of the M4 at around 11.30am, exiting via junction 15 and onto the A419 before travelling northbound towards Rat Trap.

The convoy will exit at Rat Trap and travel along Highworth Road, Hobley Drive and then Swindon Road before arriving at the final destination of the BMW plant.

The convoy will consist of two loads, both 4.9m wide and weighing 80t and 110t respectively, along with tractor units and associated private and police escort vehicles.

Oncoming traffic will be required to pull in and wait for the heavy and slow-moving convoy to pass, which could cause congestion around Swindon.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "Wherever possible, disruption will be kept to a minimum although both hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient should they come across the load.

"Anyone travelling over this period on time critical matters should allow sufficient additional time for their journey.

"Police escorting resources are being provided by officers, paid for by the haulier at no cost to the public."
