ANOTHER plot of green land in the Blunsdon and Kingsdown area could soon see scores of houses built on it.

Hallam Land Management has submitted an application for outline permission to build 125 houses on grassland just to the east of Turnpike Lane as it runs alongside the A419 dual carriageway, to the south of Blunsdon.

It fills in the gap of a huge application to build 1,650 houses centred on Hyde Farm as part of the proposed expansion of Kingsdown – put in by Persimmon Homes and Primegate Properties

The company is not a builder. It will hope to see the application through to permission and then promote the site to construction firms for them to buy and use, with consent ready to go.

It says: “The final development will provide a range of different size dwellings to provide a mixed and balanced community.”

Although the application is for outline permission – and details such as the design and layout of the houses will need a separate application to be approved – Hallam has provided details of how it sees the development being laid out.

It shows access would be from Turnpike Road, which is the width of a single vehicle at the entrance to the site, and have one main road initially heading north east before turning south east.

Eight secondary roads come off the main road.

The application to Swindon Borough Council planners says: “The main street will function as the principal higher order street providing access into the development from Turnpike Road.

"As a main entrance and route into the development, it will have a number of landmark and gateway buildings and formal landscaping through the use of trees within front gardens and maintained hedgerows.”

The lesser streets will be narrower and less formal in appearance, and pedestrian and cycle lanes will also be constructed.

The application says there is a specific aim to reduce the speed of traffic using such measures as putting buildings close to the street edge, some tight junctions and corners, narrowing the road for pinch points and changes in surface.

The scheme would retain one farmhouse on the site on Turnpike Road, but one house would be demolished.

Comments can be made to Swindon Borough Council by Wednesday, August 12.
