A would-be paedophile caught in a police sting has been warned to expect an “inevitable” jail sentence.
Appearing before Swindon Crown Court via video link from HMP Bullingdon on Thursday, Michael Bamfield, 59, of Whiteway Close, Bristol, pleaded guilty to arranging the commission of a child sex offence between February 12 and June 5 this year, specifically the sexual assault of a child.
Judge Jason Taylor QC told Bamfield’s lawyer, Tony Bignall: “He knows the serious position he’s in and that the almost inevitable outcome will be custody.”
At a previous hearing, the court heard Bamfield had been chatting online with a police officer posing as a child.
The case will be listed for sentence in early September.
The Crown Prosecution Service was represented by barrister Colin Meeke.
