As part of our Love Local Business campaign, we spoke to a number of traders across Swindon.

Here, Ravi from Mela tells us how the easing of lockdown has been for the Indian restaurant in Old Town.

Q. Why do you think our readers should support local businesses/restaurants?

"We need support local restaurants and businesses if we believe in the wellbeing of the community and its future. Local businesses are hugely important to the local community and often donate a lot of money to non-profits organisations that people may not be aware of for example, we do a lot of charity work in the local community. I also feel that by supporting local businesses it is a good way to protect the environment, as they often have a smaller carbon footprint compared to larger companies."

Q. What are enjoying most about the restaurant being open?

"Welcoming back our customers, serving food and making them happy – it is the best feeling seeing customers happy."

Q. What has been the toughest challenge for your business over the past 4-5 months?

"The biggest challenge was to keep my staff, who are like my family, in a job. Supporting them mentally was the also a big challenge."

Q. What can our readers expect when returning to Mela?

"We have introduced all the safety procedures advised by the government. We have reduced our restaurant capacity by half as to maintain the 1m rule and we have installed automatic hand sanitisers. Taking care of our customers safety is the most important aspect of Mela restaurant. It is our duty to take good care of those who are coming to have their meal in our restaurant.

"Customers can confidently come and eat in Mela restaurant, we look forward to seeing you again."
