UTC Swindon students are celebrating after winning their spots at university or apprenticeships.

The engineering and digital technologies University Technical College, offers three distinct pathways at post-16: technical, A-level and combination of the two in a workplace-style environment.

Yesterday’s results have secured students places on prestigious apprenticeships with companies such as Hitachi, Nationwide, Wiltshire Police and Network Rail.

Students also gained places on sought-after courses at universities including Bath, Southampton, UWE and Bucks.

One of those to win an apprenticeship was Henri Ebdon. He’ll be working at the UKRI in Oxford from October.

He successfully gained a double merit grade in his engineering diploma and a grade C in A-level maths.

Henri said: “I am really looking forward to starting my apprenticeship with UKRI as I have developed the skills and confidence to work in this sector after four years at UTC Swindon.”

And when it comes to university spots, Jaret Wrintmore will be heading to Southampton University after achieving a distinction in cyber security and grade A for both computer science and maths at A-level.

Jaret said: “Being at UTC Swindon has allowed me the freedom to pursue my unique interests, whilst the UTC Pipeline Programme gave me excellent opportunities to work with major employers, like Fujitsu and Wiltshire Police.”

And for Abbie Elms, she has deferred her place at the University of Kent to study biomedical engineering until 2021 after achieving a triple distinction in engineering and grade A in maths at A-level.
