JOHN Lewis is set to help Swindon organisations through a £1m fund after it closed its Mannington store last month.
Local charities, charitable incorporated organisations, community interest companies and social enterprises can apply for a share of the fund.
The organisations must support retraining or further education, economic development or encourage young people to apply.
A John Lewis spokesperson said: “Although it is very sad that we will no longer be part of these communities, we hope the fund can make a positive contribution to those charities and groups which make such a difference to many local people.”
The 108 workers affected by the closure are now taking part in a retraining fund to help find new jobs. It aims to contribute up to £3,000 towards a recognised qualification or course for up to two years for any worker with two years’ service or more.
Email community.matters@waitrose.co.uk before September 14 to apply for funds.
