THE number of recorded coronavirus cases in Swindon has increased by 27 over the bank holiday weekend.

Public Health England figures show that 1,270 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 at 9am today.

This is up from 1,243 the same time on Friday.

The rate of infection in Swindon now stands at 572 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the England average of 517.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 5,524 over the period, to 337,168.

Swindon's cases were among the 14,733 recorded across the south west, a figure which rose by 225 over the period.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.
