Ferndale: A house that became an office and then a barbers before an office again will be a tattoo parlour.

P Galeski has been given approval to turn the front of 260 Ferndale Road into the business. A previous recent permission says the back room on the ground floor and the second floor can be converted back into accommodation, and that is Mr Galeski’s plan.

Town Centre: A tower-block in the town’s central business district is to become and advertising hoarding. Planners have given the go ahead for the top four floors in the seven-storey block at 3 New Bridge Square to feature vinyl adverts for the vacant space in the building.

The adverts will be applied to the windows and will not be lit up.

Planners said the application by FI Real Estate would not be too obtrusive as the building is in the town centre and the ads are not considered out of keeping.

Tadpole Garden Village: People who live in one of Swindon’s growth areas will be able to mark Armistice Day without leaving the village.

Plans for a war memorial have been approved. The metre-high boulder with a plaque on it will be put 10 yards off the path in the area of green space known as The Stray.

Wroughton: A new community hall can go ahead. The parish council’s application to build a new pavilion at the Maunsell Way playing fields has been given the go ahead.

The new building, which will feature a distinctive offset gable roof, will have a main hall 150m sq, with a second hall suitable for a youth club’s activities and a dedicated early years space, split into two rooms, with its own lavatories and an office space.

There will be storage accessible from outside the pavilion for regular users of the playing fields, such as Wroughton Youth FC, the BMX club and the local Scout group.

Wroughton: Another community space in Wroughton is also going to get a revamp, although the plans at the Old Church Hall in Priors Hill are less extensive.

The parish church has been given the go ahead to knock down the 1960s extension at the back of the hall and replace it with a new purpose-built block featuring floor-to-ceiling windows. The new extension will have more lavatories and storage space and an office for the use of the playgroup which uses the hall.

Highworth: A plan to train professional racehorses on a farm on the edge of the town is coming to fruition. Patricia Brown, the owner of Common Farm, has been given approval to create an all-weather exercise track for horses on her land.

Her application to planners said the proposal is to let the facilities to a single flat-race trainer who can use it to train horses to run in top-class flat races and it added it would bring job opportunities for stable lads and lasses and assistant trainers as well as diversifying the farm’s income.

Mrs Brown was recently given permission to construct a manege – an enclosed gravel training arena – at Common Farm as part of the equestrian business there.

Blagrove: The Union flag could soon be flying in Blagrove. Catalent Pharma Solutions has been given permission for its application to put up a flag pole so it can fly national flags at its unit in Frankland Grove.

Extensions: Applications to build extensions, or outbuildings or to convert lofts and outbuildings into living accommodation have been approved for: 39 Cullerne Road, Stratton St Margaret; 32 Sandringham Road, Lawn; 10 Ramleaze Drive, Ramleaze; 60 Tweed Close, Haydon Wick; 1 Doyle Close and 36 Thetford Way, both in Taw Hill; 9 Northbourne Road, St Andrews Ridge; 37 Riverdale Close, Old Town; 41 Duchess Way, Queensfield; 36 Welford Close, Stratton St Margaret and 3 South Lodge, The Avenue, Stanton Fitzwarren.
