NEW road markings have mysteriously appeared on the approach to the Mannington Roundabout.

Someone has spray painted over the original lane markings with signs indicating the far right lane is to go right, and the middle two are to go straight over onto Great Western Way.

This comes after the Adver shared a video of drivers getting confused over the markings on the roundabout.

One driver, Lee Haynes, noticed the mistakes at this roundabout and the junction of Great Western Way and Wootton Bassett Road.

He decided to make a YouTube video to show these mistakes and he captured many cars having to switch lanes because of the confusion.

It seems someone has now taken matters into their own hands.

The Swindon councillor with responsibility for highways, Maureen Penny, has been approached for comment.

A scheme to improve traffic flow at the roundabout cost Swindon Borough Council £3.2m

A spokesman told the Adver this month: “We are aware of the issues around poor lane discipline at Mannington roundabout and plans are in place to install signs on the approaches to the roundabout.

"These will help drivers identify which lane they should be in to allow them to negotiate the roundabout safely.

“Over the past few months, work to get the signs installed was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. That work has now resumed and the designs are about to be sent to the manufacturer and will be installed on site shortly after.”
