Three potential changes to the licensing conditions for Swindon’s taxi drivers will be discussed this week.
Last year the borough council’s licensing department put out two proposals for public consultation to the hackney and private hire car industry.
The suggestions were that private hire drivers could be licensed to work for more than one operator at a time and a new policy to get drivers to license newer vehicles with better emissions standards.
There was a suggestion that it become compulsory for taxis to have CCTV in the cab as a safety measure. That was shelved with the matter being left voluntary.
But now the Department for Transport has now issued draft guidance, which supports the idea of local councils making it mandatory for licensed vehicles to have CCTV, and the members of the committee will be asked to approve going back to the idea.
The committee members will discuss the outcome of the consultations of the two other ideas.
The committee will meet virtually at 5.30pm on Thursday, September
17.
A web link will be provided from the meeting’s agenda page on swindon.gov.uk to allow the public to attend.
