A drink driver had planned to park up in an Aldi car park and sleep after an argument with his wife – but police caught up with him first.

Swindon magistrates heard Robert Sienkiewicz, 33, had left his home in Tadpole Garden Village after a minor argument with his partner on May 7.

Luke Jameson, defending, said his client had planned to drive over to nearby Aldi, off Thamesdown Way, park up and sleep in his car.

But police had stopped him behind the wheel of his Nissan Qashqai after receiving a tip off that he may have been drinking. He was arrested and blew the equivalent of 106 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml when tested on a police station breathalyser.

Sienkiewicz, of Malory Close, admitted drink driving. He was fined £578, banned from driving for 26 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £57 victim surcharge.
