AS the government prepares to reveal its Christmas plans, Adver readers have said they do not want to see a loosening of restrictions over the festive period.

There are worries that fewer restrictions in December could force a January lockdown.

Boris Johnson is this afternoon expected to set out his Christmas plans which could include a relaxation of coronavirus restrictions for 'a number of days' as well as reopening shops and pubs with a curfew.

But it is not clear how many households could mix over the festive period.

On Facebook, readers said while they wanted to spend time with family, they do not want to put them at risk or cause a further lockdown.

Cheryl Brookes Temple said: "We definitely won’t be putting our loved ones at risk.

"We love them more than Christmas."

Amy Coulton added: "Not worth it for weeks of more restrictions on the other side in my opinion.

"Businesses and life need to get back to normal."

Andy Reeves believes that all festivities should be put on hold much like other religious celebrations. The celebration of Diwali - the Hindu version of Christmas - took place during the second lockdown.

He said: "This isn’t science. It’s politics. What about other religious celebrations where restrictions weren’t lifted?

"How would younger family members feel if they passed on the illness to their ageing relatives for the sake of sharing a meal?

"January is hard enough. A vaccine is just round the corner. Do something at Easter. Ride this one out."

Julie Roberts agreed, adding: "I can cook a Christmas dinner in January for my family and friends or have a ‘delayed’ celebration with gift exchange.

"Rather that than be the reason a loved one gets poorly."

Alex Pidoux wanted to see a quicker end to the virus. He said: “Let’s get this over with as quickly as possible. Not delay it.”

And Angie Taylor added: "No I'm sticking to my bubble it's not worth it.

"It's breaking my heart not seeing my auntie, she's my world, but I'd rather have her alive than visit her grave."

David Hulme believes the government itself could help postpone festivities.

He said: "The Government could move it to later on in the new year give us two extra bank holidays.

"So we can celebrate Christmas when it's much safer to do so."
