ALMOST £30,000 could be spent on the play area at Lydiard Park.

Councillor Dale Heenan’s plan for the borough's parks – which will be discussed by the cabinet tonight – will also mean all money spent on parking there will solely be used to improve the park itself.

Councillor Matthew Courtliff, who represents Lydiard and Freshbrook, said: “I walk around Lydiard with my family most weekends, and I know how important our parks are.

“This plan is just what we need so that our green spaces can continue to go from strength to strength. I am also lobbying my Conservative colleagues to commit £28,000 next week to improve, and repair, the Lydiard Park play area.”

Coun Heenan said: “Coun Courtliff is very passionate about Lydiard and I am 100 per cent supportive of his campaign. If agreed by cabinet, then a revamped Lydiard Park play area will be open in January.

“One of the decisions cabinet will be asked to approve is agreeing that any income from parking fees at Lydiard and Coate Water will be ringfenced for improvements. If someone buys the £60 annual season ticket then every penny will go to improving the parks.”

The cabinet meets at 6pm this evening. A weblink will be activated for members of the public to follow the meeting.
