SN DOGS says it has seen a big increase in the amount of people wanting to rescue a dog during the pandemic.

In fact demand is so high there is now a waiting list for most dogs.

Jessie Bascombe, founding member of SN Dogs said: “For the first time ever, more people want dogs than we have available. Hopefully, people keep their commitments as more people prove they can work from home. Our biggest fear is separation anxiety for the dogs.

“We’ve had to do socially distanced dog walks, lots of video calls so that people can still foster. A lot of rescues stopped rehoming in lockdown because they can’t go out to do house checks, we do tours of the house virtually.

She added: “People are getting upset as there are still seven people on the list for one dog sometimes. People have to think about their long-term future situation, is it secure? What are your hours at work? Are they the same as your last job?

“We all know things happen so we try not to be judgemental about it. It is a perfect time to get a dog if you’re at home. But you have to consider if you will be going back to work. Dogs need to have training to cope before that happens.”
