A WEATHER warning for rain is now in force in Basingstoke as Storm Christoph sweeps across the UK.

The Met Office warning will be in place until midday tomorrow with the storm bringing the potential for flooding and transport disruption.

Here is what to expect

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses in urbanised areas is likely
  • Spray and flooding on roads will make for dangerous driving conditions resulting in longer journey times.
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely

The government has also warned residents in the Candovers to prepare for flooding.

A warning has been issued on the Gov.UK website advising residents to ‘be prepared’ for flooding.

It states: “At Preston Candover and Old Alresford, groundwater levels are high, but they are just stabilising following 3 months of above average rainfall. At the lower end of Preston Candover village, groundwater is close to emerging in cellars.”

They advise residents who use pumps to help reduce water levels, to ‘please ensure they can operate’.
