East Wichel Park could become home to Swindon's very own Avebury thanks to a new stone circle.

South Swindon Parish Council is planning to use sarsen stones, the same type as the ones at Stonehenge, recovered from the recently renovated Cavendish Square park to create the decorative feature.

Swindon Advertiser:

Councillor for the area, Jane Milner-Barry, believes it will be a great addition to the park and revealed the parish had been approached by a druid to talk about the design.

She said: "It's a very imaginative idea. The parish has been approached by a druid who suggested we don't really know what we're doing.

"They said we can't just set up a stone circle, there are certain rules to follow, which I can see is something the parish hadn't considered but our stone circle will be a decorative feature.

"It's going to be lovely, it seems to be a popular idea and fits with our area.

"Why should Avebury have all the visitors? Let's have some for East Wichel."
