This year’s Armed Forces Day has been cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event was due to take place on Saturday, June 19 – two days before Boris Johnson could allow large events to take place – at GWR Park but now won’t return until June 18 2022.

Armed Forces Day aims to celebrate the service of military personnel past and present.

Last year’s event was also cancelled because of Covid.

Committee member David Bell said: “We are putting June 18 2022 in Swindon’s diary for the next Armed Forces Day.

“And we are now inviting volunteers interested in joining our small team to assist with organising the day to get in touch for an initial chat.”

Deputy Lieutenant of Wiltshire Shirley Ludford added: “It is an important day, acknowledging men and women across the services – those who have served or are serving today and members who are also supporting the country through the pandemic.”
