TADPOLE GARDEN VILLAGE: The first of three new pedestrian crossings around the Swindon area will be put in place on Tadpole Lane.

The Toucan crossing for pedestrians and cyclists will be near the junction with William Morris Way, between the footpath link running from Kingdom Crescent to the green open space opposite, as identified as a result of the annual pedestrian crossing review.

RIDGEWAY: The second new pedestrian crossing will be a Puffin crossing with a button and red/green lights indicating when people can safely cross Salzgitter Drive, west of the roundabout junction with Highdown Way, outside Ridgeway Rise Care Home.

It has been put in place to facilitate the safe movement of pedestrians to and from local amenities.

WROUGHTON: The third new pedestrian crossing will be a zebra crossing on Swindon Road, south of the junction with Lister Road. It has been added to the road to facilitate the safe movement of pedestrians to and from local amenities as part of the redevelopment of Berkeley Farm.

EAST WICHEL: A street outside the community primary school will be temporarily turned into a pedestrians-only avenue at certain times of the day.

Swindon Borough Council made an experimental traffic order which comes into effect on Sunday for 18 months.

Vehicles will be prohibited from entering or driving along Staldon Road from its junction with Trevello Road for a distance of 75 metres in either direction between 8.15am to 9.30am and 2.45pm to 3.45pm on weekdays.

Access for residents will be maintained by the introduction of a school street permit scheme. Access to the properties in the restricted area to be maintained for the delivery and collection of goods, services and passengers.

Statutory exemptions to emergency services and other vehicles used by the council and utilities to be maintained.

The experimental order is introduced to allow the council to implement the restrictions on a trial basis.

Any person wishing to object to or support the order before it is made permanent must do so by completing the consultation form which can be found at www.swindon.gov.uk/trafficregulationorders under ‘experimental traffic regulation orders’ with the reference H&T/TRO/Staldon Road by no later than September 7 2021.

Any objection or representation received will form part of a public record which may be made publicly available.

If you wish to question the validity of the order, or of any provision contained therein on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or on the grounds that any requirements of that act or of any instrument made thereunder has not been complied with in relation to the order, you may, within 6 weeks from 24 February 2021 apply to the High Court for this purpose.

WANBOROUGH: Outline plans for the erection of up to 220 homes, commercial facilities of up to 300 sq.m and 2.2 hectares of land for a new primary school with associated parking, landscaping, drainage and heritage trail have been submitted for Foxbridge Village North on Wanborough Road.
