AN ADVENTURE bar offering crazy golf, axe-throwing, skee ball and more could be set up inside empty Regent Circus units.

The Adver understands that an application has been submitted to Swindon Borough Council with ambitious plans to transform the half-empty town centre site.

A licensing application has been filed by AGD Nine which asks for permission to serve alcohol, host sporting events and play music in Units 4,5, 7 and 8 opposite the Cineworld cinema and Lamaya restaurant between 11am and midnight every day.

The company behind it is part of the same franchise which is soon opening the Boom Battle Bar in Oxford.

There are proposals to open a competitive socialising venue in Regent Circus serving drinks and hot food to guests playing boules, electric darts, shuffleboard, skee ball, axe throwing, crazy golf, pool and dry curling, among other activities.

When AGD Four applied for permission to set up the Oxford venue, Thames Valley Police were concerned about the idea and suggested it could add to their already-heavy city centre workload on weekends while a councillor wondered whether axes could be smuggled out of the centre.

Oxford City Council's licensing subcommittee approved the application, with the conditions that bouncers should wear hi-vis jackets and body cams. What Swindon's licensing committee thinks of the Regent Circus plans is not yet known.

There are already Boom Battle Bars open in Cardiff and Norwich, and similar ventures are being launched in Liverpool, Eastbourne, Leeds and Manchester.

The Adver has approached Boom Battle Bars for comment.
