Mad March Hare organisers have announced that over £3,000 has been raised so far for Breast Cancer Now during the event's 14th year.

Despite having to run the event virtually in 2021 due to Covid-19 more than 300 walkers and runners joined in, including more than 70 children completing the activity trail in Lydiard Park organised by Days Out for Kids Swindon.

Some adventurous participants completed their 5k or 10k routte in fancy dress, with family or socially distanced with friends.

People of all ages from 2 to 92 took part, from across Swindon, Ipswich, Bristol and as far away as Australia.

The organising committee said they could not thank all of these people enough for their wonderful support and fundraising.

Members of the team made sure every entrant received a medal and, thanks to donations from two local retailers, youngsters taking part received an Easter Egg.

Team member Eunice Salmon said: "Big thanks to the good-hearted people of Swindon and beyond for rising to the challenge and continuing to support us despite the lockdown.

"Participants have been sharing their pictures via our Facebook page and it has been wonderful to see families taking part in activities together.

"The Mad March Hare has always been a community event for all and, despite not being able to see crowds of people taking part at once, it has been a fantastic month."

The date of the 15th Mad March Hare in 2022 is yet to be confirmed but it will be back, with other fundraising events coming up later in the year.
